For writer Freya Latona, garage sales are about more than scoring a bargain – they’re a precious link to the past and a way of connecting meaningfully with her clothes. As Australia gears up for this year’s Garage Sale Trail, she’s sharing her own, very personal tale of treasure-hunting. I grew up garage sale-ing around…
Small footprint advocates The New Joneses boast the totally charming mission statement of “taking green from mung bean to mainstream” – and that’s a cause we fully get behind. As the committed collective gear up for their appearance at the City of Stonnington’s delightful sustainability and gardening festival ‘Spring into Gardening’, the group’s Tamara DiMattina filled…
We love art that stops you in your tracks and makes you really think, and lucky Melburnians can do just that at Plastic Fish – an exhibition that juxtaposes the wonder of the natural world with the decidedly un-wonderful impact of man-made waste. For her third solo exhibition, Australian photographer Lilli Waters has created artwork that…
Today is R U OK Day – the national suicide prevention day that urges us all to ask the people around us that one little question: how are you feeling? By reaching out to others you can help make a difference and even save a life. That’s a message Lee Crockford – a non-profit founder…
We love linen. No really, we love it – it’s a bit of an obsession around Peppermint HQ. It’s entirely possible that, if linen were a person, it’d be taking out a restraining order right now. Being based in humid Brisbane we know the benefits of a breathable natural fibre, and we love the crumply,…

There’s nothing quite like the joy that comes from making something with your own two hands. And this personal act can often have an impact on the wider world, too. In our Spring Issue 35 (the ‘Making for Good’ issue) we speak to a few makers from around the country – including a crafter, a…
Despite living in drought-prone Australia, it’s hard to imagine experiencing life-threatening water scarcity. How it feels to travel a day for water. To be unable to quench the thirst of your children. Or be forced to give them a drink that could prove fatal. These scenarios feel far removed from our lives, but new research…

Now well and truly Instafamous, her outfit posts are the thing of legend – with entire ensembles often…
A New South Wales mother and Ayurvedic practitioner, Amy Graham describes herself as ‘a lover of life and a seeker of the light’. Hear that? It’s the rumblings of change. The sound of the global fashion industry stirring from its apathetic slumber. The beast is groaning because it feels unwell, but this is not a sob story. It’s one of diagnosis, and hope. You have to acknowledge there’s a problem before you can begin to fix it. Consuming…
If you’re anything like us, nothing makes your heart sing more than a well-stocked retro rail at your local op shop. Whilst the standard racks give you the chance to rummage for gold, the retro area is like a pre-rifled, expertly curated selection of the coolest vintage pieces on offer. IMAGINE THEN, if you will,…
We look forward to connecting with you.
