Loving Earth are our Willy Wonka. No, we haven’t seen their factory, but anyone who can create 100% raw, organic, fair trade and sugar-free chocolate goodies that taste this good have to be working some kind of technicolour magic. Connoisseurs of those two most blessed of words, healthy chocolate, Loving Earth deal only in the things that are good for us: raw organic cacao, agave and coconut butter, alongside a medley of other tasty wonders like Goji, Acai, Maca, mint and berries. The result is chocolate products that are not only guilt-free doses of deliciousness, but – making dreams come true all over the country and especially in our office during deadline – are actually nutritional super foods. Over the last few years, knitter extraordinaire Loani Prior has changed the world. Not only has she transformed the humble, once-daggy tea cosy into a covetable objet d’art via her two best-selling titles, Wild Tea Cosies and Really Wild Tea Cosies (and the countless fan projects and exhibitions that have followed), but she has literally seen tea cosies take on powers far greater than keeping that pot of English Breakfast warm. In her third title, How Tea Cosies Changed the World, she explores how her “little idea” has manifested in life-changing ways, from CWA groups raising thousands of dollars for cancer charity to the women’s prison counsellor who took the therapeutic benefits of knitting to an inmates’ Knit and Natter group – with endless positive results. Do you have a little one with style? Then my my, do we have a treat for you. Yoshiko Tsukiori’s stunning Girls Style Book has just been released to the English-speaking world, and by gosh, it’s a beauty. Crisp, sweet and modern, with minimalist Japanese styling and a sprinkle of bird-themed retro, this divinely photographed, 24 project guide to dressing girls size 2-10 will have us all manically reaching for the sewing machine. Thanks to Penguin, we’ve got two copies to giveaway to some very lucky readers. For your chance to win, simply comment below telling us what’s been your favourite Peppermint sewing or craft project so far – or what you’d like to see next! If you don’t have a little one of your own to sew for, don’t despair. While dressing up the cat is always an option, a far better one is to check out Yoshiko Tsukiori’s gorgeous titles for adults – the Stylish Dress Book and Happy Homemade vol 1 – all driven by her desire to share ‘the pleasure of making with all’. Love. {Comp closes 5pm on March 27th, 2012 – Aus only}

You’re probably wondering why on earth surfing champion and Planet Ark ambassador, Layne Beachley, is standing inside a recycling bin. Well, Planet Ark are currently running a competition to encourage us to recycle aluminum cans when we’re out and about at parks, beaches (get it – beaches?) and other public spaces. The humble tin can can be recycled an infinite number of times and, according to RMIT, recycling just six cans will offset your 25km train trip, 17km bus ride or 10km car ride! To enter simply take a picture of the recycling bin you use at home, school or work before the end of the month. There are plenty of prizes up for grabs, including an iPad 2. Good luck!

Did you know that Father Christmas used to wear a green suit? Tis true. And we tend to think around here that the spirit of the silly season could do with a slightly greener hue, and so we’re opening up our sustainable stockings and sharing our favourite finds with you! We will be posting a huge swag of gorgeous giveaways on our Facebook page over the next 7 days, so if you think you deserve to be on Santa’s ‘nice’ list*, then share the links with your friends for a chance to win. There’ll be no lumps of coal thank you very much (non-renewable resource didn’t you know, Saint Nick), just lots of wish-list-worthy treats, including homewares, skincare, fashion and loads more. Be sure to check back regularly to see what’s up for grabs!
*Peppermint will require confirmation from Santa that winners are not on the naughty list.
Please note that you must have an Australian postal address to enter.

There are still quite a few sleeps left until Christmas, but here at Peppermint we like giving presents away early. This is the best present of all, something you can share with a friend! We have one double pass to give away to the Fair@Square VIP Ethical Fashion Show on December 2 at BMW Edge in Federation Square, Melbourne. The show is part of the Fair@Square Festival, which is a weekend full of fair trade, sustainable and ethical activities, talks and entertainment (more info here). Of course all the labels in the show have our green seal of approval – in fact you’ve probably seen quite a few of them on our pages. Now is your chance to see them come to life on the catwalk!
If you’d like to be part of the fair festivities, leave a comment below. The winner will be drawn next Tuesday 22nd Nov!
