Up Your Street

Looking for ways to contribute to your community this festive season? This Melbourne secondhand clothing stall with a difference could be right up your street! The Street Store, on next Saturday 20 Dec from 12-4 in Federation Square, is Australia’s first pop-up store for those affected by homelessness – but it’s not an excuse to offload all those unwanted threads. Instead, you’re encouraged to bring along a high quality, pre-loved item of clothing that’s held a special place in your wardrobe (and heart), and that would make a great addition to someone else’s life (as a guide, it should be a garment that you’d be happy to receive yourself). This gives the city’s homeless community the chance to have a ‘dignified shopping experience’ by helping themselves to things they like and need, as well as the opportunity to stick around afterwards for a chat, a burger or even a personal grooming session from one of Melbourne’s top barbers. Head down to The Street Store next Saturday – or if you can’t make it, drop off your chosen item at the Free Is Better office, 221 Kerr Street, Fitzroy, Monday to Friday between 10am – 6pm, or GiDi CREATIVE, 10a Lincoln Street, Brunswick East, Monday to Friday between 9:30am – 5pm. It’s good to give!
