GEORGIE STONE, ISSUE 64

hang out with us on instagram

Time-travelling lungfish floating in a mosaic of glass tiles, a four-breasted female empowerment goddess cast in bronze, and a striking botanical sculpture spanning 15 metres, showcasing the cultural misrepresentation of Aboriginal people… These are just a few of the art installations to take in on the Museum of Brisbane’s Queen’s Wharf Brisbane Precinct Public Art Tour.

@KelleySheenan recently popped into the city to join the tour and take in the art sights.

"I was happily surprised to discover the recently redeveloped public area around the Queens Wharf precinct sports a multitude of artworks and sculptures conveying cultural, historical, social, environmental and Indigenous storytelling nestled in the landscaped urban and riverside green spaces," she says. "The 90-minute tour led by an expert Museum of Brisbane tour guide ‘explores the intersection of art, history, landscape and identity’, showcasing works by First Nations, Queensland and international artists alongside historical buildings and landmarks. Shout out to our knowledgeable guide Revy, who I could have listened to all day!"

Always first off the blocks is the lovely Jessie - and how great is this colour transformation! ❤️

From @MadeByMeJessieB:

“What’s a girl to do!

When @PeppermintMagazine releases a pattern, I just gotta sew it.

Now this isn’t normally my vibe, it has more volume than I would usually go for, but hey, I love trying new shapes and styles.

And let’s be ‘for real’, I like sewing clothes that are flattering for my shape, but that can preclude trying out styles that may work for me as well!

Nobody puts baby in the corner.

I have metres and metres of this grey stripe- I thrifted it for a couple bucks ages ago, and while it’s not my normal colour palette, when in Rome right! ( like I’m trying a new shape, why not a different colour)

Yeah turns out the grey stripe wasn’t really my thing. So I put this Daisy dress in some dye, and voila, it’s a different vibe. I was expecting a slightly lighter colour, but hey, that’s the fun of experimenting.

I sewed the Daisy up in a size H, one size down from my recommended size, using thrifted trims and buttons.
( my measurements Bust 110cm, waist 91cm, hip 111cm)

This was one fun sew, coming in at 4hrs and 45min for a 00:30am finish.

Thanks to @Potter_And_Co_australia , @SewYourWay_ and Peppermint Magazine collab for a fun create.”
