Play All Day: Our Favourite Hacks of the Peppermint Playsuit Pattern

It’s summer time! At least in the southern hemisphere anyways. While those of you in the north may be shivering your ways through a winter wonderland, we here at Peppermint HQ are feeling Seriously Sweaty and more than a little steamy. It’s at times like these our minds wander back to seasonally suitable staples from issues past…. like the Peppermint Playsuit!

Created in collaboration with In The Folds, this cute and comfy playsuit is the pinnacle of summer patterns and is very popular amongst the people. The #PeppermintPlaysuit hashtag on Instagram is stuffed with brilliant makes and more than a few genius hacks.

We always admire the creativity and ingenuity of our Peppermint sewists, so we were inspired to collect some of our favourite twists on the playsuit for your viewing pleasure.

So whether you’re looking to beat the heat or dreaming of warmer climes, let these marvelous makes spark some inspiration for a playsuit of your very own.

HACK 1#  LEGS FOR DAYS

You can easily lengthen the legs on the playsuit turning it into a full length jumpsuit. Assorted shrewd sewists have achieved this by following the lines of the pattern for a loose, wide legged look, or combining the top half of the playsuit with their favourite trouser pattern for a closer fitting style.

HACK 2# DRESS IT UP

The playsuit can also be easily transformed into a wide variety of stylish summer dresses. You can take out the inseam to create a simple shift style dress, pick a waist line and add a gathered skirt or go tier crazy!

HACK 3# TOP IT OFF

The distinctive neckline and snazzy strap ties of the playsuit dazzle, making this pattern a winner even when chopped down to a cool cami top!

HACK 4# FUN WITH FABRIC

One of the best parts of cruising the #PeppermintPatterns hashtag is seeing all the different ways people have discovered to use fabric colour and texture to reinvent the look of an entire piece. We love these contrasting colours, quarter splits and statement pockets!

Mel and Barbara hacked their playsuits to be more overall-esque by switching out the bowties for front fastening straps. Barbara also altered the back of her suit to give her more space to slip in and out without an invisible zip. Tea left her basic pattern the same but introduced an adorable scalloped edging to her herms!

There’s a million more masterful makes from the Peppermint sewing community in the #PeppermintPlaysuit and #PeppermintPatterns hashtags. To join in on the fun, download the free pattern and share your make with us.
