Nana Knows Best

My nana says

My nana says
‘Just like grandma used to make’ goes the catch cry of any food promoter wanting to appeal to those of us with nostalgic tastebuds… which would be just about everybody. Who hasn’t reminisced about Nana’s apple pie, looked back fondly on Po-Po’s dumplings or jumped for joy at coaxing the recipe for pierogi out of Babcia? But it’s the wisdom that grandma serves up along with her kitchen creations that a 1 Million Women campaign wants to capture and pass on for posterity. Targeting today’s food waste with yesterday’s thrifty, common-sense cookery, the My Nana Says campaign is encouraging young women to chat with their grandmothers (or mum, or any clever lady) to find out ways to save food from being thrown out, and then share those tips with the rest of us. With one in five shopping bags of food wasted in Australia, it’s a problem worth solving from a financial and environmental point of view, so the best advice will be rewarded with a pamper session and photo shoot for the winner and the wise woman who passed on the ‘waste not, want not’ tip. Visit the 1 Million Women Facebook page to enter and find out more!
