Ethical Fashion Pops Up

Roopa Pemmaraju

A small but notable group of ethically accredited fashion labels like Ginger & Smart and Roopa Pemmaraju showed their dashing designs at MBFWA in Sydney earlier this month. However, the catwalk wasn’t the only place that Sydney spotted ethical threads, with label Ampersander and art consultancy Lineaist opening the Silver Linings pop up shop, showing new ethical fashion and textile collections. A limited edition textile design, which became the showpiece of the pop up, was created to raise awareness and make a statement about ethics in the fashion industry. The opening of Silver Linings also saw the launch of Ampersander’s new collection Fresh Frocks, which is ethically accredited through Ethical Clothing Australia (ECA). A spokesperson for ECA said that ethical fashion is rapidly gaining worldwide momentum and hopefully will be a solid feature of fashion weeks in the future.
