A Very Cosy Competition

How Tea Cosies Changed The World

Over the last few years, knitter extraordinaire Loani Prior has changed the world. Not only has she transformed the humble, once-daggy tea cosy into a covetable objet d’art via her two best-selling titles, Wild Tea Cosies and Really Wild Tea Cosies (and the countless fan projects and exhibitions that have followed), but she has literally seen tea cosies take on powers far greater than keeping that pot of English Breakfast warm. In her third title, How Tea Cosies Changed the World, she explores how her “little idea” has manifested in life-changing ways, from CWA groups raising thousands of dollars for cancer charity to the women’s prison counsellor who took the therapeutic benefits of knitting to an inmates’ Knit and Natter group – with endless positive results.

Alongside these stories are Loani’s usual crazy, cute and irresistibly chic tea cosy patterns – which in this volume include the beautiful, dusty pink and pomegranate Beatrice, layered seductress Lily and the positively royal Eugenie – with all the necessary tips and instructions for beginners. But if tea’s not, well, your cup of tea, there are also other pretty patterns including handbags, beanies and scarves dotted throughout the pages. And thanks to Murdoch Books we’ve got three copies of this gorgeous title to give away! To go into the draw, simply leave a comment below telling us your most coveted knitted item. Think beyond your cuppa – it literally could be anything! {Comp closes 5pm, April 4th 2012. Australian postal addresses only}.

Portraits of a Tea Cosy
Loani is currently calling for entrants to be part of her Portraits of a Tea Cosy exhibition, which will be travelling Australia in 2013. If you have an interesting Tea Cosy story – either something you’ve made yourself or a precious family heirloom – then please get in touch here and help spread the cosy revolution!

“We are in unprecedented times in the United States, at least in terms of having a government who openly and unabashedly disparages, rejects and causes harm to trans folks and other marginalised groups, including immigrants. So my team decided I should make a piece of art that included the words ‘You Belong Here’ that people could hang in their homes, and this piece was born.” @LisaCongdon 💕

Who’s going to the sold out Liberty Fabrics Showcase in Brisbane or Melbourne? 🙋‍♀️

To say we’re excited is an understatement! Maybe we’re biased because our lovely Laura (Sewing Manager) is walking in the fashion parade along with many other incredible sewists in our community, but also - there’s SO many good things: retail stalls featuring exclusive products, rare finds and all things @LibertyFabrics, and sneak peeks at brand-new quilting and fashion collections, including the Liberty Fabrics Spring/Summer ‘Floral Rebellion’ collection.

Also - Liberty legends Mary-Ann Dunkley (Head of Design) and Anna Buruma (ex-Head of Archive) are flying in from London especially!

Keep an eye on our socials this weekend for BTS! 🌸🌼🌺

Thanks to the teams @2GreenZebras @Regent_Street_Fabrics and @StyleArc for including me on the runway. I absolutely can’t wait!

Obviously I’ll be hoping for enough scrap fabric to make some kind of accessories…
