PUMA Goes Compostable

PUMA InCycle Basket Shoes

Activewear giant PUMA pumps up its sustainability credentials with the recent launch of InCycle, a ‘closed loop’ collection of footwear, apparel and accessories. The range is made up of biodegradable components, with one of the prerequisites being that raw materials used are organic fibres without toxic chemicals and are rated under the Cradle to Cradle certification program. Amongst the range is a fully compostable Basket Tee and Lifestyle Sneaker, the sole of which is made from a new biodegradable material, APINATbio, that can be shredded into its component materials before being composted. Interestingly, this is the same material eco fashion design Stella McCartney used in her Fall/Winter 2012 shoe collection! The launch of InCycle also coincides with the PUMA ‘Bring me Back’ program, which encourages customers to bring in unwanted apparel for composting or recycling.
