Gather, Create

A scrap of heirloom fabric here, a pressed flower there – do you ever look at a seemingly simple collage or a perfectly positioned flat lay and wonder just how do they do that? Local collective gather :: create believe our inner artist shouldn’t be relegated to the pages of Pinterest, and are helping people from all walks of life nurture their creativity through a series of workshops and gatherings. Their next event, Unfurl & Poetic Collage, is happening on June 28 and is themed around two very hands-on sessions. First, participants will work with guest facilitator Alex Falkiner to create a series of 3D objects from fabrics and found materials. In the afternoon, makers will be encouraged to develop a visual voice via collages made with poetry, paper and a little help from industrial designer Karina Sharpe. A long lunch prepared by Artisan Wholefoods will break up the full-day workshop, which also features morning and afternoon tea treats, a goodie bag full of inspiration to take home, and a chance to win some great door prizes, including a copy of the new Peppermint. It’s all happening at the Pinky & Maurice studio space in South Golden Beach (about 1.5 hours drive from Brisbane) – head to their webpage for tickets and prepare for a day of creative play.
