Cool quilting! See the Viola Quilted Jacket as made by three sensational sewists…

Have you made the Viola Quilted Jacket yet? This pattern hits the sweet spot for both established sewists keen to learn a new skill (quilting!), and quilters looking to try their hand at garment-making.

This quilted cutie has it all: a cropped length for easy layering, a grown-on collar and bound seams for keeping things classy, and long sleeves you can turn back to reveal a flash of your lining fabric. Oh, and did we mention pockets? Perfect to keep your mitts toasty! Sew it true to size for the perfect transseasonal weight or size it up to fit a chunky knit underneath when things get frosty – the Viola Quilted Jacket has you covered.

This much-loved pattern was made in collaboration with our friends at Two Green Zebras who are the exclusive Australian distributor of Liberty Fabrics (via Regent Street Fabrics)– bringing these iconic prints to local makers who love a little luxury in their me-mades. An Australian Fabric Wholesaler founded by Chris Roche and Fiona Mason, Two Green Zebras brings together many years of experience in the craft and textile industries. Inspired by their two sons and a love of creativity, Fiona and Chris offer a fresh, boutique approach to sourcing unique, premium fabrics, with a strong focus on creative excellence and exceptional service.

Fiona told us why she loves the Viola: “It‘s such a versatile pattern, depending on the fabrics you use! Whether you’re wanting to create something light for those cooler spring / summer evenings or the perfect toasty jacket for winter days, you can create so many different variations.” Fiona also gave us her expert advice on fabrics for this make, suggesting “for a lighter Viola Jacket, a gorgeous Liberty Tana Lawn™ would make a super soft and luxurious jacket (check out the original!) or even a light weight Lyocell Denim would create a fresh modern look without the structure of a traditional denim. For a more wintery Viola, you could use anything from a traditional quilting cotton, cotton duck or even a corduroy – these would create a more structured look and keep you nice and toasty. You could also totally change up the look and feel of your viola jacket with your choice of batting!”

ALICE VEIVERS OF ALICE NIGHTINGALE

“Oh it’s LOVE ❤️ I had the absolute pleasure of making a Peppermint Viola Jacket using loooovely Liberty cotton from Two Green Zebras last week! What an absolute joy, I just had to show you the whole process! If you’re ready to make your own, head to the Peppermint website and check out their patterns.

👌🏻 Corduroy from @TheNestCommunity and wadding from @Kaelas_Patch ✂️”

BIRD L of @BIRDY_SEW_OBSESSED

“I started this jacket two weeks ago and finished it early this week. There was a lot of hand sewing and brain work to make it reversible, but it’s done and I love it. Peppermint asked me if I wanted to try their new pattern, they will also be providing the fabric for the outer shell. They had me in the first sentence but when they mentioned Liberty fabric… I couldn’t fire up my printer and sharpen my scissors fast enough.

I picked this fabric because I used to grow orchids and I thought the colours would work well with my existing wardrobe. I made a good choice I reckon.

Pattern: #PeppermintViolaQuiltedJacket from @PeppermintMagazine  in size E-H. I only shortened the sleeves by 4cm.

I made the jacket reversible by making two outer shells and then sewing them together. There’s a lot of extra steps that went into it so I will save it as a highlighted story if anyone is interested.

Fabric: Liberty London quilting cotton from @2GreenZebras. This is the first time I’ve used LL fabric and I can see why people rave about it.

Cotton linen mustard fabric and batting is from my personal stash.”
