Get Your Fancy Pants On! Brisbane Fashion Month Is Coming!

There’s lots to love about October, especially if you’re in Brisbane, where the dressing up opportunities extend far beyond the ghoulish delights of 31 October. For you lucky folk, it’s Brisbane Fashion Month, which means there will be public runway events, small business pop-up stores and sustainability chats – many of which are freeeee!
Presented by Fashion Queensland, BFF festivities take place in some of the city’s most iconic spots, including Queen Street Mall, West Village and the State Library of Queensland. And because Peppermint just so happens to be a media partner, we’ve been ogling the program and found four events that we think you should probably (most definitely!) attend…

WEST VILLAGE RUNWAY
Wednesday, 9 October, 5.30pm and 7.30pm
A bunch of fine Queensland designers will showcase the latest in sustainable and culturally driven fashion. Held at Metro Arts’ New Benner Theatre; tickets $110 plus booking fee (includes a drink on arrival and a gift bag).
GAME CHANGERS, FASHION IN FOCUS
Thursday, 10 October, 6pm
A panel discussion at the State Library of Queensland, featuring sustainability consultant and Textile Beat founder Jane Milburn OAM, Troy Casey of fashion label and social enterprise Magpie Goose, and Jessie Sadler of adaptive clothing brand Christina Stephens. Gain first-hand insights into innovation, culture, community, creativity, responsibility and the economic realities of fashion. Entry is free but you’ll need to book tickets.
BRISBANE FASHION MONTH SLOW FASHION RUNWAY
Friday, 18 October, 5.30pm
Part of an annual series at Queen Street Mall, the Slow Fashion Runway will showcase an array of ethical and sustainable fashion labels based in Brisbane and Queensland. The show will feature the likes of Pinkpineapple Custom Made, Birds on Bikes, Chamani, Secrets of the East, DIYGirl Shedshop, Kiara Bella, Dinjuan and Analia the Label. Entry is free but you’ll need to book tickets.
SPECIAL PRESENTATION: EXPLORING THE FUTURE OF FASHION IN INDONESIAN ERI SILK AND TENCEL
Friday, 18 October, 6pm
A panel discussion with Janet Teowarang (Universitas Ciputra Surabaya and Allegra Jane), Melie Indarto (KaIND), and Carla van Lunn (Queensland University of Technology) exploring Indonesian hand-weaving fabrication silk textiles and showcasing sustainable handmade batik and natural dye fashion by Allegra Jane, Carla van Lunn and KaIND. Entry is free but you’ll need to book tickets.
