Fleeting Fashions

Fleet Store

Prefer your spring fashion fresh and fast? The Fleet Store‘s 2014 pop-up boutique in Brisbane’s CBD is the best place to source garments and accessories from local makers, designers-in-training and graduate students this September. The store is organised annually by QUT fashion/business students to help give industry up-and-comers the chance to get their foot in the door and their creations on the racks of a real-life retail space. As per usual, there will be dozens of unique brands on show this year, including a debut collection from our friends at the stitchery collective, handmade jewellery by Bianca Mavrick (pictured above), and creations by local silversmith Holly Ryan (as seen in our Issue 22 Softly Does It photo shoot). Among the small-scale garment makers you’ll find upcycled vintage from TLC and Moreno Marcos and sustainability minded labels Grammar and Endless Second. Outside the closet, there are items from a range of local artists and ceramicists available, plus Sayuri Nail Lacquer, 3-free and handmade in Brisbane. There are also debut collections from 13 QUT final year design students available to purchase – it doesn’t get much fresher than that! This year’s store is open between September 15 and 26 inside Old Government House on QUT’s George Street campus. Visit The Fleet Store’s new website for the full list of designers and don’t forget to pop in when they pop up!
