Brisbane Gets Undressed

The biggest sustainable fashion event in the southern hemisphere, Undress Runways returns to Brisbane this Saturday 11 October from 5pm – and it promises to be better than ever! Taking place at Factory One on Boundary Street, the three runway shows and eco fashion market celebrate some of the most exciting sustainable and ethical designers in the industry, including Peppermint favourites Nico Underwear, Alice Nightingale, Madonna Bain, Mango Rains, sinerji and Vege Threads. The event aims to take sustainable and ethical fashion (including garments that are produced using off-cuts, organic cotton, recycled materials and vegetable dyes, or that are fair trade or Australian made) into the mainstream, and to increase consumer demand for innovative, responsibly produced clothing and accessories. There’ll be daywear, evening wear, swimwear and lingerie on show, and delicious organic cocktails served on arrival. Over 600 tickets have sold so far, so don’t forget to get yours here before they’re all snapped up! And remember to dress in your best eco threads – as the Undress Runways website says, “If you don’t know where it was made, what it is made from, or where it will end up, take it off.” We have two double passes to the event up for grabs – just head to the Peppermint Facebook page for details on how to enter! {Competition closes Friday 10 October at 1pm}.

“The ocean is a great equaliser. It doesn’t matter your age, size, background or circumstances – when you’re in the water, you’re stripped back to your essence. I’ve watched women who were terrified of the ocean walk in tentatively, then emerge with tears of joy and new-found confidence.”
For Perth photographer Amanda Battle, the deep blue has brought sisterhood and second chances. Growing up in Shoalwater Marine Park, the ocean was both her playground and sanctuary, and a balm for body and soul during challenging times. Born from her own healing journey, Amanda’s @WomenOfWaterProject, book and documentary showcases a community of women who found belonging and connection in shared experiences in the ocean.
“Every single woman arrived with her own story – grief, trauma, joy, resilience – and every single woman showed up exactly as they were in that moment. Photographing over 100 women in the ocean for the Women of Water book has been the most humbling privilege of my life.”
