The Stitch Up – Some of Our Favourite August Makes on the ‘Gram

above A GLAMOROUS PAIR OF PEPPERMINT SPRING SHORTS BY @VICTORIALUCILLEANNE

We love seeing all your me-made takes on the free Peppermint patterns! The way each piece can be totally transformed through styling or fabric choice – not to mention your brilliant alterations and pattern hacks – showcases a vibrant versatility that knocks our cotton socks right off!

If you’re thinking of tackling a particular pattern, we can’t recommend checking out its specific hashtag enough to get a sense of how other brilliant sewists in the Peppermint community have made it their own!

To show off some of our faves, we’ve put together a roundup of some of the most marvellous makes we’ve seen this month. If you want to show off your sensational sewing, be sure to tag us in your posts and you might see yourself in The Stitch Up in months to come!

TOPS OF THE POPS

To start with, some standout shirts… @MadeByCoraline’s Peppermint Albion Blouse pops with peachy perfection against those tasty teal tiles, while @GoodThreadsStudio’s crafty mind turned her Peppermint Paddington Top into an elegant elasticated crop!

GINGHAM ON GINGHAM

We know the siren call of gingham all too well, so we understand these women’s desire to double dip in the well of sweet checks. @LindseP pairs her Peppermint Milton Pinafore with a matching blouse while @De.Vie.En.Aiguilles contrasts her Peppermint Albion Blouse with a smaller checked skirt.

BLUES RUN THE GAME

As the poets would say, they’re “blue da ba dee da ba di”: @SewLike’s lovely linen Peppermint Bardon Dress and @BeksMakesTings’s spectacularly squiggly Peppermint Wrap Skirt showcase the punchy power of sapphire shades.

BOTANIC BEAUTIES

These two Peppermint Wide-Strap Maxi Dresses are so beautiful, it’s a shame they might disappear, perfectly camouflaged when in the correct outdoor environment. @Nan_And_Ariane makes friends with fronds, while @Sewnly_Fans belongs among the wildflowers with Tom Petty.

SHORT AND SWEET

We love a pair of snazzy shorts! @Tremayne_SewStyle made a monochromatic pair of Peppermint Skye Shorts that are black and white and oh so right! @Linen.Addict‘s Peppermint Spring Shorts’ sweet scalloped edge hem hack has us going ooh la la!

QUEENS OF ALBION

Fun fact: Albion is an alternative name for Great Britain, in use since Ancient Greek times. Contemporarily, it’s often used in a poetic sense, often associated with Arthurian mythology due to its usage in the works of Geoffrey of Monmouth and BBC’s Merlin (2008). Anyways, we digress. Move aside Guinevere and check out these queens of the Peppermint Albion Blouse. @KimsHandmadeAtelier’s make is as poetic as all get out, while @Au.Grenier throws us a change-up – we were so obsessed with our two beautiful sleeve options, we never considered how cute it could look as a sleeveless vest!

Between 2000 to 2015, global clothing production doubled... while the duration of garment use decreased by 36%.

We are throwing away clothing at a faster rate than ever before. How can we tackle this problem?

✨️ WEAR
Be an outfit repeater - wear your items of clothing as long as possible. Learn to style your garments in various ways. Loved clothing lasts.

✨️ SHARE
If you really need to move it along, share the love with friends - hold a clothing exchange night! Or organise a timeshare with a friend where you swap a few favourite pieces of fashion. If you really can't find a new home for it, then donate to an op shop or charity.

✨️ CARE
The care of your clothing – washing, drying and ironing – can account for approx 30% of a garment's total carbon footprint. Hand wash, line dry, wash in cold water, and only wash when necessary.

✨️ REPAIR
Mending – and making – slows down fast fashion buying habits. Repairing used to be common practice, until disposable fashion took over. Extending the life of clothing by just nine months can reduce carbon, water, and waste footprints by 20–30%. Fixing doesn't need to just be utilitarian – get creative with visible mending!

Have you whipped up the Acacia A-Line Skirt yet? 🪡

Accessible to beginner and experienced sewists alike, its classic style makes this skirt a wardrobe staple and a pattern you can happily play on repeat. Curved front pockets and the fun exposed-zip detail at the centre back make this style pop! The Acacia is a blank canvas, awaiting inspiration – add contrast top stitching, trim the pockets with bias binding or even change the length. We’ve chosen the smooth, clean lines that come from facing the waist, with back darts to ensure a neat fit on the hip. *chef’s kiss*

This pattern was made with the support of the lovely folk at @WeftAndWarpFabrics 🫶🏼 The team at Weft and Warp graciously sent three sewists the fabric of their choice to whip up their own Acacia A-Line – the results are super sweet!
