Oh Mama! The Finders Keepers Market is Heading To Sydney Just in Time For Mother’s Day

Peppermint-FK-Header

Slow fashion, pretty homewares, enchanting jewellery… Not to put too fine a point on it, but: take our money! The Finders Keepers Sydney Design Market is heading back to Carriageworks this May for three days of celebrating all things lovely in local design. From 2-4 May, this iconic Sydney landmark will once again transform into a treasure trove of unique homewares, art, accessories, fashion, foodie finds, and the kind of β€œwhere did you get that?!” gift you’ll want to keep all to yourself.Β

Or maybe you need to find the perfect treat for your mum? Mother’s Day’s coming up, after all! (And it’s never too early to prep for Xmas… #justsaying) The Finders Keepers market is your go-to for discovering the best of Australia’s makers and creatives, all under one roof. Just in case you’re already starting to worry if your tote bag’s big enough to fit all the great goodies you’re sure to find, we’ve sorted a few fabulous brands into a wishlist to suit all kinds of mums or mother figures. Happy shopping!

Pottery-loving Mums

We think that ceramics are always the right gift for any celebration, and The Finders Keepers is a gold mine when it comes to finding clay to commemorate the day. For earthy mums, you can’t go wrong with pottery in natural tones from Airr Made, Sogo Ceramics or Muckware. For those with an arty edge, head to the handpainted wares of Posy, Arttacus or Throughgood Pottery.

Mothers Bringing The Bling

Minimal, colourful or natural; there’s jewellery a-plenty to adorn necks, ears and fingers of all persuasions. Katherine Wheeler is renowned for her handpainted porcelain creations, Ant Haus creates simple, stylish pieces from recycled metals, and Tree of a Kind crafts their wooden jewellery from recovered waste offcuts from the timber flooring industry.

The Mums Dressing For (Secondhand) Success

For the sustainable fashion mama who loves herself some preloved wears, head straight to Bossa & Co who create ‘Fashion with Memory’ – taking classic vintage jackets and turning them into statement pieces with paint, embroidery and sewing. Dusty makes use of reclaimed blankets for their sustainable range, while Myrtle and Dove’s one-of-a-kind kitsch-cool shirts and dresses are made from upcycled tea towels, tablecloths and vintage fabrics.

First Nations Matriarchs

Maybe your family is Indigenous, or you or your mother figure are passionate about supporting First Nations artists and culture (why wouldn’t you be?!). Either way, there are some beautiful Indigenous-owned brands at The Finders Keepers for any occasion. The APY Art Centre Collective (APYACC) are a group of Indigenous-owned and governed art centres that work together on innovative artistic projects, producing products such as jewellery, art, ceramics, clothing and tote bags. Atyene (pronounced Ah-chen) by Rachel Perkins is a stunning clothing line that β€œembodies the spirit of country through design”, and King King, founded by Tarisse and Sarrita King – proud Gurindji and Waanyi artists – create bold and meaningful clothing, homewares, jewellery, art and rugs.

Mothers Serving Up Love

Isn’t food everyone’s love language? Condiments are surely the way to a mum’s heart. Women’s Work honor the legacy of women, crafting small-batch relishes and gifts, inspired by their great-great-grandmother’s traditions. They say women are β€˜often the keepers of recipes, the preservers of seasonal abundance, and the quiet architects of family meals that nourish more than just the body’. Drunken Sailor’s small batch jams, relishes and mustards make an all-round perfect gift, while the authentic Korean sauces from Cham Cham will bring the zing and make any dish sing.

Mamas Burning The Candles at Both Ends

Good old candles – the classic present to light up the life of any mum (or friend, sister, uncle, father for that matter). Surely the first place to start would be with a No. 1 Mum handpoured candle from Kennedy Smith, or maybe a White Lotus & Jasmine one from Green Candle Co (no lorazepam needed). The Indian Sun natural soy candles come in delightful scents (wood sage and sea salt please!), while their Mastectomy Candle Mug, hand-crafted by Ebsworth Pots with 10% of proceeds donated to The McGrath Foundation, makes a thoughtful keepsake gift. For colourful creative candles, swing by Minami for their decorated delights, for quirky creations You, Me and Bones will spark a laugh with their hearts, brains or coffin candles, or for the conscious caregiver in your family, the collection from Leaf Candle Co come in recycled tins.
