Day-to-night dressing is all stitched up with our easy, breezy wide-strap maxi dress pattern!

We worked with Perth-based patternmaker Lauren Boyle from Elbe Textiles to create this beautiful pattern for you. With subtle side splits and a statement elasticated back, it’s the ultimate summer staple. Layer over a top pinafore-style, or simply wear on its own for lazy beach trips or adventures after dark.

We used the midweight linen in ‘brick’ from The Fabric Store for our version. Find us on Instagram @peppermintmagazine and @elbetextiles.

About the dress! It’s so comfy and feels so luxurious in washed linen. I feel kinda like a princess in it too which is always the goal! This pattern is seriously so good. There are some lovely details like cutout pocket openings, the seam down the center front, and the elastic back. I would never have guessed this was a free pattern. The instructions were awesome as well. I love that they make you do all French seams. This dress definitely feels more “finished” and sturdy than many of my other makes because of that!

The Peppermint Maxi Dress was one of the first patterns I downloaded when I got my sewing machine and I can’t believe I waited this long to make it! It’s such a simple pattern but really beautiful and satisfying to fit - I probably adjusted the straps/back elastic four or five times to make it sit just perfect. I chose this @MerchantAndMills tencel linen in the most perfect Mori shade. The only shame is having had to wait so long for a sunny day to wear it!
