Get ready to swing into sunny days with the Peppermint Skye Shorts!

Collaborating with brilliant British patternmaker Mandi Bharij from Make With Mandi, we created a pair of shorts that are both glam and practical! Inspired by the dramatic swish of circle skirts, our version of swing shorts walks the line of fun and function with flow aplenty around the legs and hips – and pockets, of course! The curved front yoke paired with an elasticated back waistband is all class at the front, comfy at the back. Go on: get your legs out and make this simple sew so you can sashay into glorious warm-weather adventures.

We’re beyond thankful to our sewing partner Spoonflower for helping to make our patterns possible! The @PeppermintSkyeShorts sewing pattern looks deceptively like a mini flare skirt but it is actually a pair of shorts, so I can prance around however I like while keeping my modesty intact. It has an elastic back so it’s pretty and practical. Pattern made in collaboration with @MakeWithMandi

The #PeppermintSkyeShorts have been a summer staple the last two years. They’re so breezy and somehow way more comfortable than a skirt. I made a green pair last year, and a tan this year. The green ones were too big, so I made a smaller size in the tan but it was still too big, so on both I just folded in the back elastic at two points and sewed it down. I also added maybe 5 inches to the length so they’d be a couple inches above my knee.

I like to wear shorts over my swimsuit and the #PeppermintSkyeShorts were perfect for this. I omitted the pockets and left the hem raw. With an elasticised back waist they’re super comfy and I love the wide legs.

Last summer I had the idea to make a faux jumpsuit with a combo of the #OgdenCami and #PeppermintSkyeShorts. Now it’s heating up again, I am loving this outfit! I have worn them separately, together and also have another self-drafted top in the same fabric.
