Say hello to our robe jacket – your newest #memade wardrobe staple!

Created for us by Alison Pollard and Charlotte Mackay of Brisbane-based sewing pattern and sustainable fashion brand Common Stitch, this versatile robe jacket features wide sleeves, a relaxed silhouette and a fabric belt. It’s the perfect transeasonal, multipurpose pattern – try pairing it with jeans and a tee, layering it over your cossie while at the beach, or adding length to create a long duster jacket in a heavier fabric for those cooler days.

We used the Minford ‘Fresh’ Hanky Linen from Tessuti for our version. Find us on Instagram @peppermintmagazine and @common_stitch.

I don't usually buy / sew existing patterns (I prefer to draft them myself) but after seeing this pattern on Instagram and the many variations people have made I really wanted to try it out. I'm glad I did! The pattern is extremely easy to use. You could make this jacket in a few hours, even if you are a total beginner. The instructions are very clear too. This was a lovely start to using other people's patterns and I'd like to do it some more this year. I'll be making more versions of this jacket for sure, and I think I'll add pockets to the next one. 😍

A bit of #PeppermintRobeJacket spam because I’m so happy about how it came out. 😊I always carry with me a scarf or some sort of cover, even in the summer, because of cold air conditioners or just to protect the skin from the sun, and this robe is going to be perfect for that. It’s very light but cozy at the same time. (I can also see it being a great beach cover up!). It’s such a great project – now I just want to make one for all my friends. 😂
