We collaborated with the clever patternmaker behind Just Patterns, Delphine Colbeau, to create the Milton Pinafore. Channelling all the cottagecore vibes, this twist on a classic pinny is a wardrobe tour de force. Get meadow-ready by layering it over a tee or floaty peasant top or – if your inner cool-girl is calling – strap in the girls and dance the night away sans top. With straps that can be worn straight or crossed (they’re buttoned on the inside of the dart-cinched, sepa- rate waistband), the sewing fun is in the detail – concealed pockets, shaping bust darts and a statement-making button closure! Now hop on ya bike and add it to your to-sew list, pronto!

I absolutely adore the shape and details of this. I’ve been looking for the perfect pinafore for about 3 years now and this one ticks all the boxes! ✅button up ✅A-line skirt ✅ simple yet thoughtful design ✅ crossover straps ✅ easy (ish) construction. Whilst making this I though how easily it could be made using left-over pieces if you panelled the skirt and used different fabric for the facing and waistband too!

My #PeppermintMiltonPinafore is finally complete and ready to take for a whirl! I got to practice a bunch of different techniques so it was a challenge but the instructions were fantastic and the construction design is delightful. I want to make another one but not sure how many pinafores my wardrobe can sustain! I did make a small mod and replaced the buttons at the back with an exposed metal zip.

I made a size 40 and added a lining to the skirt as I plan on wearing this with tights in the winter. I also shortened the straps by half an inch which in hindsight I didn’t need to do but it still fits pretty well. This was a fun make and I love the large pockets, really looking forward to wearing this as the weather cools down in Canberra!

I made the #PeppermintMiltonPinafore from denim that I have had in my stash for a few years. I liked the construction although got myself in a muddle on one side - with the French seams with the pocket. Thankfully I could undo my mistake then get it right the next time! This is different from my usual style. But it’s growing on me. It’s nice to step out of your own comfort zone once in a while.

I LOVE the pocket construction! Each pocket bag is only one piece, folded in half (genius!) and the French seams are so neat. The skirt is also French seamed and so with the lined bodice, I didn’t touch the overlocker once. I have plans to make all my dress pockets using this pocket pattern from now on. And include French seams more frequently than I do now (which is currently basically never).
