A holistic community health centre in Alice Springs has taken out the Inaugural Ethical Enterprise Award, recognising innovative, positive and ethical practice. A non-Government, Indigenous-owned health organisation, Western Desert provides care and support for people needing renal dialysis, while also offering social support through housing assistance and education. “[It] not only benefits the wider communities with our products, services and workshops,” says Christy van der Heyden, Coordinator of the Wellbeing Program, “but also generates employment for Indigenous people by self determining how cultural and intellectual knowledge is used”. This inaugural award was launched in July, as an initiative of Moral Fairground and Australian Ethical Investment, and announced on Friday at the opening of Fair@Square in Melbourne. You can find out more about Western Desert’s inspirational story on the Moral Fairground website!
