Made in collaboration with fabulous French patternmaker Camille of Camimade Patterns for Issue 55, the Peppermint West End Jacket is a universally useful, gender-neutral design with clever construction. It features a touch of tasteful top-stitching and a few fascinating flat-felled seams. Not to mention patch pockets, perfectly placed for putting your mitts in and big enough to store all your essentials. Sew it in thick wool for winter warmth or lightweight cotton as a summer shacket – this is a pattern you’ll want to make again and again.

We used Spoonflower’s Dogwood Denim, printed with watercolour tie-dye by South African illustrator Melly Williams and navy denim from Byron Bay bohemian Esther Fallon Lau, as well as a statement pop of Matisse-inspired magnolias from Carrie Cantwell.

I took home a cut of stunning Japanese denim when we first got it into the shop and envisioned a denim set with a wide leg pant and oversized jacket. It took a lot of searching to find a good pattern for the jacket. Thanks to @caitsnyd_sews for heavily influencing my decision to make the #PeppermintWestEndJacket with similar mods to her version! I made a size A, adding oversized pockets, a side vent, and the placket from my Ilford Jacket. I mimicked the trapunto stitching from my pants on the cuff and love the little detail.

Say 👋 to my first jacket ever sewn, and I must say, it turned out pretty well! I found pre-quilted material I knew I was going to turn into a jacket. Also found the perfect pattern from @PeppermintMagazine, the #PeppermintWestEndJacket 🧥The sew was a pretty simple one, and I tried out flat-felled seams for the first time. The collar was sewn down once and perfectly in place. Probably the first time I didn’t reach out for a seam ripper 100 times on a project. Overall, I was really happy with the finish and would sew it again!

I only bought half the fabric required for this #PeppermintWestEndJacket since I NEEDED it and that was all there was, but with the addition of some grey linen on the under collar, on half of the facings and by doing a patchwork on the cuffs I was able to make it work! I love it when that happens.

I am a woman, and I love gender neutral patterns! I have wide shoulders and a small bust, so my high bust measures the same as my full bust. My hips are also generally a size smaller than my waist. I really like the fit of gender neutral patterns, and they usually require few (if any) adjustments. The #PeppermintWestEndJacked by @CamiMadePatterns x @PeppermintMagazine is one of my favourite makes from gender neutral patterns.
