Here’s to evenings filled with community, creativity and connection!

Launching in 2016, PepTalks has offered audiences around Australia the chance to come together to be uplifted, informed and inspired. SPECIAL ME-MADE CHAT!

Our Sewing Coordinator Laura Jackson will chat all things sewing, community, making and sustainable fashion with some icons of our local me-made community.

LAURA JACKSON

An enthusiastic sewist, crafter and all-round creative Laura is our go-to gal for all things me-made. She is a wearer of all things bright and homemade and is our in-house master of all matters stitchy and crafty. This multi-talented human (she is also our People and Culture expert) is our go-to gal for (actual) pep talks, project inspiration and sewing conundrums.

SUE-CHING LASCELLES

Sue-Ching is a multidisciplinary artist, predominantly working in textiles and soft sculpture. She turned her creative (and anxious) energy to making garments in the first Covid lockdown in 2020 and brings her colourful clothing ideas to life with love and happiness.

ELLIE WHITTAKER

Ellie Whittaker affectionately labels her bold, joyful designs as ‘modern nostalgia’. She has worked with some of Australia’s biggest retailers, including Target and Cotton On and gained widespread repute with licensed ‘Ellie Whittaker’ ranges for Streets Ice Cream, Big W, Best&Less and Spotlight Stores. When she’s not working on licensing partnerships she runs her own online fabric store, manufacturing ethical and sustainable fabrics. Ellie is always happy to talk about creativity, business and fabric and is known for spreading education, silliness and fun on her social media channels.

KATIE WEYCHARDT (@KatieMakesADress)

Katie, an all times maker and sometimes seller, is the talented and creative sewist behind the account @KatieMakesADress. You may have recently peeped her many versions of the cult-followed Roberts Wood Drafter’s Grid dresses (the first version of which she famously created out of tea towels and almost broke the internet) not to mention her triumphant range of dresses, hand-embroidered boilersuits, shorts, bras and swimwear makes. With a passion for the bright, the patterned, and the bespoke, Katie is more than a little bit inspiring.

KYLIE BRÚLÉ (@KylieAndTheMachine)

Kylie launched Kylie and The Machine in 2017 with a small range of woven labels for the home sewist. When it became clear that this was exactly what was missing in the sewing community, she added more designs to the range and from there it became the KATM you know today. KATM provide a curation of sewing items including must-have tools for sewing, denim hardware sets and labels to finish off your me-made garments. Kylie recently teamed up with Gemma Thebault, the force behind Sewing Gem, to unleash a whirlwind of sewing splendour with their podcast Sewing Club. The two dive headfirst into the world of stitches, fabrics, and creativity, exploring the hottest trends, most enticing patterns, breaking news, and a whole lot more.
