Morningside School of Arts, Morningside, 4170 Brisbane. This beautiful Art Deco community-owned hall is in need of restoration, and we’re proud to be supporting their efforts by holding our event here! This will help put funds towards preserving the heritage value of this historic building.

This is an 18+ event.

Here’s to evenings filled with community, creativity and connection!

Launching in 2016, PepTalks has offered audiences around Australia the chance to come together to be uplifted, informed and inspired. In 2023 we were extremely proud that our little event with humble beginnings won the Mumbrella Event of the Year. And we are very excited to say: tickets are now on sale for our 2025 event!

PepTalks features speakers from the community of Peppermint and beyond who are making a difference in the world. Sharing the highs and lows of their journey, along with their most inspirational tales and how-tos, these speakers are sure to leave you feeling inspired and empowered.

With all the usual fun including selfie walls, good chat, great snacks, me-made parade, giveaways galore and much more, PepTalks 2025 is a night made just for you – our beloved Peppermint community!

We are proud to say we are donating $5 from every ticket sold to Dangerous Females – a movement founded to combat violence against women by raising awareness and funds for support services in Australia.

SPECIAL ME-MADE CHAT!

Our Sewing Manager Laura Jackson will chat all things sewing, community, making and sustainable fashion with some icons of our local me-made community.

LAURA JACKSON

An enthusiastic sewist, crafter and all-round creative Laura is our go-to gal for all things me-made. She is a wearer of all things bright and homemade and is our in-house master of all matters stitchy and crafty. This multi-talented human (she is also our People and Culture expert) is our go-to gal for (actual) pep talks, project inspiration and sewing conundrums.

SUE-CHING LASCELLES

Sue-Ching is a multidisciplinary artist, predominantly working in textiles and soft sculpture. She turned her creative (and anxious) energy to making garments in the first Covid lockdown in 2020 and brings her colourful clothing ideas to life with love and happiness.

KATIE WEYCHARDT (@KatieMakesADress)

Katie, an all times maker and sometimes seller, is the talented and creative sewist behind the account @KatieMakesADress. You may have recently peeped her many versions of the cult-followed Roberts Wood Drafter’s Grid dresses (the first version of which she famously created out of tea towels and almost broke the internet) not to mention her triumphant range of dresses, hand-embroidered boilersuits, shorts, bras and swimwear makes. With a passion for the bright, the patterned, and the bespoke, Katie is more than a little bit inspiring.

ALICE VEIVERS / ALICE NIGHTINGALE

From design to final detail, all Alice Nightingale pieces are made with love by Alice and her team of creatives in her sunny Brisbane studio!

Her focus on using secondhand, vintage and locally produced fabrics means her designs are not only hand made to outlast fast fashion cycles, but are also environmentally and socially sustainable. In late 2009, Alice completed her diploma of fashion design and technology with a goal to create quality clothing in small quantities. Feminine and quirky, her designs are inspired by vintage trends and local flora and fauna.

JANE MILBURN / TEXTILE BEAT

Jane Milburn established Textile Beat as a purpose-driven business in 2013 to inspire a creative approach to the way we dress, and to embrace natural fibres and upcycling for pleasure, reward and sustainability. She is a sustainability consultant, author of Slow Clothing: finding meaning in what we wear, and a 2019 Churchill Fellow investigating ways that being more hands-on with our clothes can help reduce textile waste and enhance wellbeing. Jane trained as a Climate Reality leader and her work aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

PLUS! A  BONUS COMMUNITY SINGALONG
If you came to the last PepTalks event, you’ll know how much of a hit the singalong at the end was. Hillary, the multi-talented founder of Cork and Chroma, is back to round out the night with a tune… nothing beats a good community karaoke to dust off the cobwebs and feel some connection!

Thanks to our friends at the Australian Makers Directory for supporting PepTalks! Australian Makers Directory is a free-to-join online directory that gives creatives a place to showcase their wares and connect with mindful shoppers. Founded by Angela D’Alton and Renée Baker, these two well-known legends have deep roots in the maker community and understand the challenges and opportunities faced by artisans.
