For most of us, the Christmas festivities are well and truly winding down and with all the decorations being packed away, the next logical question is what to do with the tree. If you’re a Sydneysider, you’re in luck! The City of Sydney Council is offering a free collection service throughout January so that much loved Christmas trees can be recycled. Part of the city’s weekly Clean Up Service, the Recycling Program allows local residents to book in a collection date and ensure their tree is recycled into mulch, which is then used to nurture and protect soil. What many people don’t realise is that organic matter, like trees, release methane in landfill and contribute to global warming. Recycling your tree really is the Christmas gift that just keeps on giving!
