“We are a community of givers; our creativity is about cross-cultural exchange and connection. It’s been wonderful just meeting other creatives in the lead-up to the markets and discovering their work. It really is a privilege being involved in The Finders Keepers markets – I’m particularly excited as it’s my first time being on the other side, instead of visiting.”

Can you believe it?! The @Finders_Keepers markets are back in full-swing, baby! We’re so excited to be part of the 2022 seasons – on board again as the proud media partner – and can’t wait to see all you shiny, happy people at the events.

Next up in the season is the Melbourne/Naarm market which will return to the Royal Exhibition Building next week from the 8–10 of July. You’ll be able to say g’day to us and get your fill of design, fashion, homewares and all the usual Finders Keepers goodness from over 200 stall holders.

This season, Finders Keepers is also expanding its Indigenous Program with the support of Aboriginal Melbourne and @CityOfMelbourne, welcoming 20 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander owned and operated businesses to the Melbourne/Naarm market.

Tickets are on sale now (just $5) and when you buy a ticket, you’ll go in the running to win one of five subscriptions to Peppermint! What a steal. Head to the link in our bio for all the details and to meet the First Nations creatives behind @YilamOnCountry, @HausOfDizzy, @EmmaStenhouseArt and @Pop_Wilder!

My body, your choice?

The US Supreme Court has ended constitutional protections for abortion that’s been in place for nearly 50 years by overturning Roe v. Wade. It’s thought this will lead to abortion bans in around half the states.

Rights concerning same-sex marriage and access to contraception could be next on the chopping block. US President Biden said: “Justice Thomas said as much today. He explicitly called to reconsider the right of marriage equality. The right of couples to make their choices on contraception … this is an extreme and dangerous path the court has now taken us on.”

Peter Kalmus, NASA climate scientist, tweeted: “The partisan and anti-science “supreme court” will likely rule on Monday against the EPA’s ability to regulate climate emissions, effectively shutting down the last best avenue for climate action by the US. The ramifications could last thousands of years.”

Our hearts are breaking - and raging - that the rights of women and pregnant people to make choices about their own bodies are being taken away. 💔

"Most non-Indigenous peoples really have a lack of awareness around either true Indigenous cultures, or at least, the way we would wish them to be perceived generally. At this stage in the game, this is simply because people aren’t inclined to expand their circles and move into a learning of another cultural background, outside of their own normative society. There’s simply far too many great Indigenous-run endeavours and events, like CIAF, which are putting our cultural values and insights out there to the world, for people not to know that we are more than vague dot paintings and mass-produced boomerangs at beach-side souvenir stands. I don’t believe any ignorance is malicious, just symbolic of a lack of motivation and the ease of presumptive opinion."

The ever-vibrant @CairnsIndigenousArtFair (CIAF) will return to Far North Queensland next month to showcase the immensely talented and innovative First Nations artists the state has to offer. Ahead of this year’s event, and to learn why art fairs such as CIAF are the ultimate platform to amplify diverse artistic identities, we had a yarn with CIAF Marketing and Communications Manager, and exhibiting artist, Jack Wilkie-Jans. “As Indigenous women, we have our own unique stories to tell about our own lives. Stories about the challenges we’ve faced, the things we’ve overcome and our successes. These are what we focus on when we paint – our artwork always tells a story. It’s gentle and healing, and portrays our journeys and the essence of who we are as proud First Nations women… Mum shows me every day what resilience and cultural pride looks like. I treasure what we’ve created together and how healing our art has been for both of us.”

Deeply rooted in matrilineal lore and strength, the mother-daughter duo behind wildly successful Indigenous art house @MiimiAndJiinda share powerful stories of healing. We spoke with the pair in our latest issue – grab a copy today to read more about their story.

SEW GOOD 🍃

We're swooning over this gorgeous me-made creation by @Leila.Makes, showing off our latest free pattern – the #PeppermintAlbionBlouse – in all its glory. Sew your own by heading to the link in our bio to download the free pattern today!

From @Leila.Makes:

"This was a fun lil collab w @PeppermintMagazine x @Spoonflower for their newly released FREE pattern ~ the #PeppermintAlbionBlouse designed by @VanessaHansenStudio 🙌🏽🥳

"I made this blouse in a lovely printed cotton poplin designed by @HolliZollinger 🌱

"I didn’t make too many modifications other than shorten the bodice by 1-2” and when all was done, I didn’t ~love~ how loose the cuff was around my arm (it’s giving me business lady shoulder pad vibes??) so i had a stroke of genius and just tucked the cuffs in 😎 (see last pic for difference in cuff vibes). I also opted not to use interfacing on the neckline because the fabric felt stiff enough on its own 🤷🏻‍♀️

"There are three hidden snap buttons on the inner wrap side and three cute lil buttons on the outside to create this wrap top and I couldn’t help but add one more lil snap button to keep the front wrap closed at my chest bc this pattern was intended for a B cup (and includes a lovely/thorough instruction on how to do full & small bust adjustments!) but I just refused to do it 😅🙅🏻‍♀️"

“I’m passing stories onto my children, the same way my mother passed stories onto me, the same way my grandmother passed those stories onto her.”

The @NationalIndigenousArtFair – two immersive days of First Nations art, design, food and culture – will return to Sydney Harbour’s foreshore next month to showcase artists, designers and makers from remote community art centres around the country.

Ahead of the event, we spoke with weaver and linocut artist Carol Liyawanga Campion of @BabbarraDesigns who will be showcasing her work. Read the interview about the importance of preserving culture at the link in our bio.
