We love a good pop-up shop, and when granted an opportunity to see something as gorgeous as an Athinaeum bag in the flesh, well, that love just doubles. As well as making fine use of vibrant South American textiles, Athinaeum also pride themselves on their eco cred. Every bag is unique, crafted from pre-loved, handwoven textiles using minimum waste design principles, and importantly, the company ensures fair wages are paid to their craftspeople in Guatemala’s Atitlan community. One of Athinaeum’s key goals is to preserve and showcase Mayan traditions and skills to the rest of the world, opening up a dialogue about the ancient culture. If you care to pay them a visit, the Athinaeum pop-up shop is open until April 28th, located at 39 Enmore Road, Newtown, Sydney. Can’t get there? You can shop online any time! UPDATE: The Anthinaeum pop-up is now open until May 27th!
