The ultimate in boxy tops, with beautifully gathered detail on the back, this is a satisfying sew you’ll want to turn out again and again. We partnered with our good friends at @Spoonflower for Issue 61 to create this outfit essential (and you can still nab yourself a printed copy of the pattern if you buy this issue!).⁠

The feedback was unanimous from the wonderful Alex @MySewBliss, Danette @ForAllLove, and Gowri @ByPaary, who each made a version of this classic style in their choice of Spoonflower fabric. All three were enthusiastic about celebrating the Tansey Top as a quick and easy sew. It's great for beginners and a great palate cleanser for seasoned sewists.⁠

"If you've seen my stories lately, you might know about the highs and lows that brought me this dress. If not, here are the notes:⁠
- fell in love with an Alemais dress⁠
- dress was very expensive, sold out and probably wouldn't fit me anyway. ⁠
- was ecstatic to find the fabric, listed as linen, in a shop in Turkey.⁠
- was equally ecstatic that @peppermintmagazine had just brought out the perfect skirt pattern to make the dupe.⁠
- fabric arrived quickly, washed it and was suspicious that it came out of the drier relatively wrinkle free.⁠
- started cutting, fabric frayed like nothing else, so I did a burn test and it melted like plastic 🫠⁠
- forged ahead anyway, lined the whole shebang in cotton lawn and here we are.⁠
